The Glaucoma Society for UK and Eire is an independent organisation acting as a national forum for the discussion of advances in the detection, management and pathophysiology of glaucoma. Attendance at the national meetings is open to all clinicians and scientists with an interest in glaucoma. While the mission of the society is to disseminate ideas it is not open to members of the public. The website will post the highlight of each meeting in a form that is accessible to all.

Meetings are held annually in the UK and Eire involving a day of presentations and a keynote lecture by a leading scientist or clinician dealing with glaucoma.

Past meetings in this format were held in Nottingham (2005), Birmingham (2006) and Cardiff (2007), all of which were great successes. We are pleased to announce that this year's meeting will be held in Dublin (2008) and that for 2009 the meeting will be in Liverpool. Further meetings will be held in cities in the UK and Eire, the location being determined by the Chair for any given year.

We are pleased to announce that the Glaucoma Society Research Award for £20,000 will be presented at the meeting as a result of the generous support of the International Glaucoma Association. Applications can be made online through the website. There will also be a prize of €500 for both the best paper and best poster presentation made by a junior clinician or junior scientist.

The committee structure of the society has been designed to maximise the involvement of the glaucoma care community in the UK and Eire.
